Hello fellow wombers, my name is Christian and I have been visiting this forum for years now, but was too shy to say hello. I've been living in Zurich for a year now after moving from Barcelona, before Europe I used to live in Guatemala.
The Church is my favorite band as is the case with the majority of the people in this forum, and as cliche as it may sound, the first encounter I had with The Church's music was seeing the UTMW video on MTV. It was 1995 and I was still in high school and I was so impressed with the song that I went the next day to a record store hoping to find the album were that marvelous song was contained, but in my excitement I forgot the name of the song and could only remember the name of the band, so I asked if they had anything from a band named The Church and they offered me three or four albums. I made my choice based on the cover... and what I got was Priest=Aura. It didn't have UTMW but I don't remember ever having such a musical changing and moving experience as the day I listen to the album. It opened a totally new musical perspective for me, it was like I was waiting for this my whole life but I didn't knew it. It's my favorite album by the way.
I have seen them live twice in the States, in San Juan Capistrano and San Diego on March 2004. In San Diego I was lucky enough to meet them after the sound check, really nice guys. I was so nervous that I forgot the name of my favorite song of Sometimes Anywhere when I told them that I really likes that one. Peter was the nicest, we talked for a while, and he told me about his projects and I felt he really enjoyed talking about them. Marty signed my cover of Manchild & Myth as a joke, but Peter didn't find it very funny. Another thing I remember about that day was that during the sound check I talked to this girl who knew the band was in town by coincidence after seeing a poster the same day. She wanted to say hi to them as she played the little girl in the Two Places at Once video ten years before. She didn't make it to the concert as she was still under age. May be she is among us now. (is she?)
I have been living in Europe for three years now and I was so hopeful to see the band live... but no luck there. Why don't they tour Europe any more? They have been twice in the States in this time. I would love so much to see the three albums in a row tour.
Anyway I love the band and the people who like them have the best taste in music.
Long live The Church!
