SECOND MOTION NEWS
the church 30th anniversary reissues coming soon!
To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Australia's legendary band, the church, Second Motion Records is currently putting the finishing touches on a reissue campaign set for release in mid October for the albums: Of Skins & Heart, The Blurred Crusade, Seance, Heyday, Starfish, Gold Afternoon Fix, Priest=Aura and Sometime Anywhere.
In addition there are also plans to release the EPs: Remote Luxury, Sing/Songs, Tear It All Away and Persia as well as the first 30th Anniversary definitive singles collection, a double album spanning the band's entire 30th year career from their first single to their latest, "Operetta" off 2009's critically acclaimed album "Untitled #23"
more info to follow soon so keep checking back!
I wrote Stephen at Second Motion for more information, and he was kind enough to share the following tidbits:
* The Don Bartley remastered recordings from 2002 and 2005 will be used. Neither EMI nor Second Motion have the funds for another remastering job.
* The reissues will be single-disc (album plus bonus tracks), except for the later albums where two discs will be needed to cover all of the bonus songs (Starfish, GAF, etc.). Some re-sequencing may occur compared to the EMI Australia discs.
* The EPs might be released as a four-disc set, one disc per EP. Emphasis on "might" - no final decision has been made. The EPs will be released sometime after the full-length albums. (Personally, I'm pleased that TFFY/TIAA will be treated as an EP, and not as bonus tracks to OSAH.)
* Second Motion has also acquired the rights for vinyl reissues, but none are planned at the moment. May depend on how well the CDs sell.
* No plans for a massive box set with extra goodies, similar to the Kilbey box set.
* Finally - no videos on the CDs! (thankfully)
I'm glad this project is moving forward, for the band's sake. I was very happy with the Swervedriver reissues from 2008 (except for the small font on the liner notes), so I'm also glad that Second Motion is in charge of this project. Slightly disappointed about the Don Bartley remasters (I've become less than pleased with these recordings over repeated listenings - far too loud & compressed). However, I understand if it's not financially possible to remaster yet again. Best thing to do for better sound quality is to lobby for vinyl reissues. :-)
Apologies if this information has been posted elsewhere.
