Beside Myself |
Hello |

Hi, I've been a Church fan since '86 and FINALLY saw them in Raleigh last week...totally blew me away!! I listened to them sporadically over the years (mainly the first six albums) then about three years ago my friend turned me on to some of the post-Starfish albums, and since then I've been slowly collecting what I can...I'm just amazed at how prolific these guys are! It's rare for a band to get better with time. I really love the '83-'86 period, but their 2000s albums are really starting to grow on me. I've been lurking on here for a few days and downloaded a couple of live shows, and today I decided to join. Anyway, I won't ramble but I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone on here better!

Welcome aboard, from a fellow newbie to boot. Your point about getting better with age is right on. I'm a huge fan of Depeche Mode, U2, Bunnymen, Cure etc, and without exception, all of their recent output has disappointed me to some degree. What the Church has been able to pull off in the past decade is maybe unprecedented in rock history. What Kilbey and Co. have been able to do in just the past 2 years is astonishing in terms of both quantity and quality, and bodes well for the future.

Yeah I'm a big Cure fan too and have been disappointed with everything they've done since Disintegration! I have the box set and rarely listen to discs 3 and 4. I can't believe how good the last few Church albums have been though...makes me wanna get my hands on everything they put out. I loved all of Steve's banter (patter) between songs at the Raleigh show. How about the Lithuanian tour manager story?

Welcome to the fold, B.Y.
It's great that you got to see them in Raleigh. Personally I prefer the 2000s incarnation of the Church best, but I still love the iconic early records.

Hopefully there won't be another 11 year break! We should start lobbying to get them back here this fall!

Agreed.
Stephen from Second Motion used to live in Raleigh, so there's hope now. |
