I voted for plus some, I would of left Ritz on and eliminated one of the instrumentals. SADS and Man are must, would have been even better like this with Ritz on Box Of Birds.
Welcome Comedown Gypsy Stomp White Star Line SADS Ladyboy Man The Further Adventures Of The Time Being Wont Let You Sleep Why Don't You Love Me It Could Be Anyone Magician Among Spirits |

I enjoy both of them to be truthful, I my vote has to go to + some, purely and simply because it's a signed copy which to me is priceless!!

I have to admit Ritz never really did much for me, so having other songs instead is a big plus for me.

I still missed one option from the poll: own mix. Maybe some people would have liked that too.
It seems I´m the only one so far to prefer the original version. The long and adventurous Ritz as track 3 sends it to another kind of course through the murky sonic seas. The album also feels more compact and understandable to me in the 10-track form. I have found myself reaching for that quite often lately.

I had to say the original version. For one, the memories - finding it randomly at the record store in 1996, completely surprised that The Church even had a new album (I really thought SA would be the last). Secondly, I do really like "Ritz" ("we're still in search of petty scorn" - love that lyric!) Third, of the extra tracks on "+ some", I only like "Man" and "Won't Let You Sleep" - so ideally, my perfect version of MATS would have included "Ritz" and those 2 tracks, leaving off "SADS" and "Why Don't You Love Me", both of which I've never really been able to get into. But in general, I tend to pick MATS version one off the shelf to play in full.

I love both, that's why I own the two copies. But, as I find Steve Harley's rendition of Ritz more interesting than the cover version plus the fact that the Comedown single goodies match perfectly the spirit of MATS, I choose the latter release.

i enjoyed reading Another Earth's comments, i had exactly the same experience.... trolling through random CDs one evening around 1996 or 97 at the Borders near Seattle's Westlake Center, and stumbling across the original MATS. no way! i'd given up on them after P=A, having paid no attention to SA after finding out that Koppes had left the group. (finally bought that one some years after MATS.... i consider SA a "Church" album about as much as the Re:Fomation.... some good songs, but something essential is missing -- the other guitarist.... but i digress.....)
anyway, the original MATS was a happy find, and i took it straight up to the counter and took it home. i still dig it -- but i voted for the Plus Some version because of "Man," which i consider one of the Church's very best songs of any period. highly evocative lyrics.... resonant, unsettling, profound.....
