Swedish film - Lat den rätte komma in / Let the right one in. Probably one of the best films I've seen recently...

Aaah, thanks for mentioning this one and reminding me of it. Haven't seen it yet, read very positive reviews about it but had completely lost it from my film radar.

![]() Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel Bollocks. Avoid like plaque. It might dupe the 5-year olds but even as a kid-movie it was horrible.

chrome, doesnt the world need another hyperactive, over-the-top, fast forward-squeaky-funny movie??
Selma loved Pixar's "UP" BTW... @Timetunnel - go watch this!!! It's bloody awesome!! |

I think the world doesn´t need another family-movie where jokes are about people in wheelchairs, hospital beds and with neck collars. Also, why school is portrayed as a place where you get your head repeatedly flushed in the toilet? The bollocks influence of American Pie is everywhere.
I missed UP in the movies but the cardboard houses of UP have reached the mall. Have to get it soon.

The Lovely Bones | ||
|
I haven't read the book but was really looking forward to Peter Jackson's new film "The Lovely Bones". The trailer looked quite promising though it was clear that it seemed to be a bit kitschy. Well, what a dissapointment. Very good acting, quite some thriller-like and familiy/character tension, which is all pretty well-crafted. But the rest? Outch. Jackson must have used too much Windows XP lately because there's no other explanation for the fact that the, uhm, "intermediate heaven" of the dead girl looked like the defaullt Windows XP Luna theme. What a failure compared to a movie like "Heavenly Creatures". I can imagine that this movie might be dreadful for people who've read the book.

![]() I just read this book about Napoleon wars that was fought with aerial forces of dragons. Lovely adventure stuff with a believable alternative reality. I bought it mostly for the incredibly beautiful embossed cover and cheapo price. I wondered why Peter Jackson was gushing over this stuff in the back cover. I wonder no more as Jackson has aqcuired the rights to this book and it will be his next epic fantasy after Lovely Bones. After seeing King Kong remake I´m sure that Jackson and period piece will be a an excellent match. Look for this stuff in 2013 or something. It will be a killer!

Empire of Ivory - never heard about it before but it sounds veeery interesting. Gonna have to add it to the pile of books to read (sigh, so much to read and watch, I need a clone of myself...).
@Antichrist: I loved Dogville, and Dancer in the Dark was stunning, but I'm still reluctant watching this one. |

@Antitunnel Timechrist - if you loved Dogville, and thought D.I.T.D was stunning, don't hesitate to watch this one! I mean, Breaking The Waves was scary...but Antichrist is filmed so gorgeously...it's got the opening sequence of the decade, and every single frame is painted with incredible esthetic competence. It's a stunner!! Don't let the scandal gossip mislead you; i think it might well be Trier's best film, at least visually. A real ballbreaker, hehe...
@Empire of Chromey - do you play the Random Cover Game with books or is it real? |

I've been asking friends for their opinions of Avatar. I haven't seen it, and probably won't be able to until it's released on video. Any of you seen it? Enjoyed it? Hated it? Why?

last part of the trilogy. very good, as the 2 preceding films. cutting all that useless blah from the books (who ate what and when, who shagged whom and why...all to no avail), leaving (1) a great serial killer thriller (2) a political thriller (3) a pretty convincing trial movie.

![]() Actually the story is terribly sad. Loners, losers, failure everywhere etc. etc. However the animation is so gorgeous, the characters so incredibly heart-warming and all the details so extremely funny that it simply turns this movie into one of the best stop-motion animation movies every made. |

![]() Toy Story 3. Actually quite deep and thoughtful movie, which was no surprise. They have taken the previous themes and it´s a really mature stuff. Also the character modeling has been improved and now the "real" human characters can actually act. Now even my local 1-screen cinema has 3D-movies. I wish they wouldn´t. It´s not so fun to watch the whole movie with clunky and big glasses that press my nose. I had to take the glasses away every now and then and then the screen is blurry. Yikes. Bring back the 2D! I bet "Mary and Max" was an enjoyable experience because you didn´t have to use those awful 3D-goggles. |

"Mary and Max" is plain old organic 2D. <RANT>I HATE 3D. One reason is that I'm simply not able to see in 3D, so why should I use 3D-goggles on the top of my own glasses in order to see a 3D movie in 2D and even pay lots of more money for it, for nothing?! The other reason is: they are doing it wrong again and the audience gets annoyed. Most film people don't realize that they have to shoot a movie completeley different in 3D: lots of more light, other camera movements, other perspectives etc. etc. They just pimp it up. I haven't seen the Clash Of The Titans remake, which was "converted" (haha) into 3D after shooting it, but heard that people were very very angry about it: much too dark, painful for the eyes etc. 3D sucks. It brings no additional value to the movies.</RANT> Luckily, Christopher Nolan thinks the same, so there's hope...
Toy Story 3 - still haven't seen it but I read it's one of the very rare cases of a third movie of a series being better than the first two.

Toy Story was indeed better than previous two as a movie mostly because humans could be included in the plot more closely too. Unfortunately 3D brought nothing new to the mix and it annoyed me. As much as I have been dabbling with 3D I still like my 3D shown in 2D without any goggles. You shouldn´t go to see it in the movies to see it as 2D-version hasn´t been announced yet. Wait for DVD or something.
