I wouldn't mind if they released a full secret vault CD without the songs I already have - or, if there were different versions of the known songs - i think the Numbers Soft Mix was very very good. But us Europeans are being made to suffer with continuous Aussie and US shows. Its so unfair! I'd be surprised if there was no Euro show this year though to celebrate the big 30.

Plus those fortunate to attend these incredible shows get a free copy of Deadman's Hand! Oh, and in regards to other versions of known songs - i've always had a secret wish to hear just how it might sound if Brian Eno were to do a remix of "Hotel Womb"!

It is another unexpected but incredible musical journey into the dark psyche of one Mr. Kilbey. Sonically it is not all that different than "Moodertronic" from the FY bonus disc with its droney, dirgelike qualities, except Steve rescues it from being a sonic noodling throw-away with some of his most poignant lyrics ever. "Dakota, I wrote your name on the fields in the sky. And this road don't take me home. Dakota, I brought you flames just to light up your eye. But this fire don't get me warm." This is really good stuff! Much more finished and complete than the Operetta ep songs. Classic stuff. On 26th Feb SK said they were working on these songs: the gardener stardust dakota the kicker mellotron guitarama Does anyone know the tracklisting for the ep? Is it going to have all of these on?? Would make it nearly an album, and a great one if the 2 songs heard so far are anything to go by! By the way its great to have 3 singles properly released off an album - its really extended its life span. Can't remember the last time there were 3 real singles (not just promos etc). Must be Starfish or GAF possibly. Pretty sure not since then.

The Kicker: a brief trip Dakota: for those of you who heard it on SK's blog: you know; but Dakota is a gem that they must have set aside for this EP; dare I say that this I my 3rd new favorite (yes I dare) : Got my aces and eights! The Gardner: wah pedal; sets this vibe, slow tempo...." I want my Garden back right now"!! sorry such a lame review; but let me just say YOUR GONNA LOVE THIS EP!!! Peace and Love JfW

Whatever - it sounds fantastic if the Gardener and The Kicker are anything like as good as the other 2 new tracks. Can't wait to get hold of it - just think... some households have multiple copies of this ep because of the free offer... and here I am without any... Yes I'm bitter!

Anyway "The Kicker" (twice since it's quite short) is currently up on Steve's blog as backing to a video called "Rode Movie". "Dakota" and "Stardust" are great. Dakota is brooding to the point of unsettlement and the decidedly odd and sparse instrumentation doesn't leave a lot of places to hide. And KSP is right about those lyrics: "he told ya he'll hold ya safe til the day that you die but this life don't seem to end" Stardust is a wonderful blend of 90s-style Church guitars (but not just a retread either, in some way a new level), laden with all sorts of goodies, catchy and flowing and bouncy. Just from hearing it on the computer I reckon once I hear it in CD form it will be even better.
