Andrew Davidson: The Gargoyle This image doesn´t do justice to this book as it looks devilishly handsome in real life. A random selection from me. A bit hard to go through the opening chapters as it is very "skin deep". Strange and weirdo and I´m not sure if I can finish it. He drums impatient fingers on the chrome and on the leather

Posts: 5900 (01/05/2010 04:24) Faith Healer Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	i like image of the guy bowling with only 4 pins, though i guess you could slam together the hottest pieces of the bybble in a shocking fashion, too my books for the christmas season: after kavalier n clay, i expected another great book. i didnt really like it, though i loved the alternate history plot. it was pretty dragging for most of the time, but still, i couldnt put it away. i can imagine it well as a movie, and i just read the Coen brothers are working on it. Cool!! Right people, right stuff! In hindsight, it was a good book! after reading embers, i expected another great book. instead, i got a masterpiece. i will read all and everything by Márai available in my teutonick mozzer tonk!! funny, shocking, frightening, elegant, mad, original - all you could expect from a book!! read it, chrome!! nice thriller with nice n slow pace, and a fine unreliable narrator. light n easy stuff, still good! next on: devoured the first 60 pages yesterday, when i was actually already sleeping - very very good! ...because strange is what we need The Fandorin Foto Files

Indridason is a fine crime writer. You could expect that icelandic cops would wander the glaciers and sing poetry by the fjords with voice like Jonsi but no, they have marital and booze problems just like every other cop in the urban landscapes. The urban part being of course somewhat small in the case of Iceland. I´ll have more of that some day, It´s bound to happen. He drums impatient fingers on the chrome and on the leather

I like the idea of wandering under the fjords, drinking and singing poetry about marital problems. Sounds like something from an American country music song... other than the fjords bit.

THe first book by Arnaldur I read (Codex Regius, non-crime) was shit, but i thought I d give him another chance! History of Prague, from the bronze age until the velvet revolution, from mythic origins to personal recollections of expulsion... just very very very very very very very good. It´s entertaining hodge podge for sure, but there is some interesting stuff about gene technology too. Like every intriguing recent gene-technology news collected and weaved in to the story. Richard North Patterson: Eclipse Disturbing story about oil industry in Africa. Happens in a made up African country that resembles Niger. Loosely based on the life of Ken Saro-Wiwa. Carlos Ruiz Zafon: The Angels Game More same from the spanish writer. It´s going to be a 4-part trilogy... He drums impatient fingers on the chrome and on the leather

It didn´t take me many days to read it but then I have been chewing books a lot lately as my online time at home has been less (kids want to surf too). Is Angel´s game better? Well, if you thought SOTW was bollocks then you should stay away from this one. Even the devil is a character here, in the fashion of Angelheart (Mickey Rourke-flick from the 80´s). Over dramatic stuff but so entertaining. Blood, delusions, hallucinations, death, ghost houses, gothic moods, doomed love affairs...but still easy. It´s like a romantic novel, but for a middle aged goth. A novel pretending to be real literature. Still I was entertained when I didn´t stress my brains too much with it. There is at least one author that I really like, whose stuff I can find among all the Coelhos and Sophie Kinsella´s of the world.
