A few years ago I had a chance to chat with Marty at the merch table at one of his Moon Maidens shows. I hadn't realized he'd grown a beard until that point. I said, "I like the beard!" and with a big, beatific grin and a twinkle in his eye, he stroked it and said "Yeah, it's happening, innit?" Marty's beard is happening and I vote it stays!

The only thing wrong with the beard is it does allow moments where he looks scary. Scary as in while sitting on a stool during the show in Seattle, he looked like Charles Manson (as seen in videos when Manson played his guitar). To be fair Marty is lightyears better on the guitar but it was a scary look. My wife noticed it too.
Why Charles Manson? He comes up as a great case study to use in my psychology class that always holds the class' interest. |

A neatly trimmed beard is groovy - To be neat could help the band's image. I'm just sayin'.....Either/or tho - It is his face, after all! The music will not change with or without.

His head has gone through so many changes over the years, from something out of a New Romantic group with his exaggerated mullet, to somewhat resembling a narrow-faced David Gilmour and now this more 'sage' look.
