Happy New Year, everyone! I got mine on Wednesday, New Year's Eve Eve, along with "Shriek" and my "missed out because I was distracted
chatting and getting my photo taken with SK" North American tour t-shirt! Anyway, I love the 2 new vocal songs, but I really love "Particles
Matter", the 35 minute psychedelic rock instrumental/jam! I've played that track, actually, more than the others these past few days! I think this is
my favorite of their jam tracks so far! But overall, I do recommend the entire EP if you don't have it yet.
As for "Shriek", it's pretty good, but I guess I'd understand it more if I saw the movie.

You wouldn´t understand much of Shriek if you saw the movie. You have to read the book in order to "see" what it´s all about. See the movie

I assume the lack of chat about Operetta is because not many actually have it yet? I'm still waiting on mine...

My came really quickly.......no change there!!
Anyway, since Chrimble I've really enjoyed Silhouette in Meltdown and Moon Hangs In Black, but I can see why they didn't make the album. Neither IMHO is a missed gem like say Jazz, Saturation, Crash/Ride, Snowfaller etc. I've lost the security code thingy to my car so can't listen to stuff on the move at the moment so I've only heard the jam track a couple of times.

I really like the extra songs. I think both, with a bit of fine tuning, could have made the album. Wish Silhouette was a bit longer. Moon is more dreamy. Both are great. Particles is a good driving song, insofar as background music goes. Real catchy. No filler on this release. |

Mine turned up yesterday. First impressions are pretty good. The 2 vocal songs are a bit rougher than the rest of the u23 releases and need a few more lstens
to get my head round really. Particles Matter is better than I was ready for. Theres a lot of energy going on there and I lasted the whole 34 minutes without
losing interest which is good going. According to details somewhere MWP plays bass, Frank Kearns plays the "other" lead guitar so is SK involved in
this at all does anyone know? I loved the interview where he said he hadn't actually listened to it and thought it was a big ask to expect people to sit
through 34 minutes of 4 guys jamming! Great stuff.
Anyway, I liked it. Will listen more over the coming days. |

Wow.. real nice ep.
downloaded it a coupla days ago... I like Silhouette in Meltdown, still digesting it, can see it missing a lil something that held it back... I reallllly like Moon Hangs, nice floaty atmospherics great drums.. I put this on the album along with coffee song for a customized #23.. .. Particles Matter is amazing.. sounds so raw and alive.. Im so impressed, sometimes the jams are hit or miss.. this one isn't. its fire!!. an undertaking nonetheless.. its a rewarding one.. these guys are rocking in constant rebirth form.. like a phoenix rising.. highly recommended kids!! Enjoying this Church phase tremendously..!

OK here are my impressions...
1) Operetta - my favourite Church song west of A New Season, Lustre and Antenna. Makes it the best Church song in 17 years. the two new songs are outtakes, and they sound like outtakes, i.e., they are raw and sound, unfinished, Silhouette has spontaneously rhymed lyrics, while Moon uses the "I begin every line with the same words" scheme 2) Silhouette - a nice strummed acoustic guitar chord - Ripple unplugged? But no, it evolves into a different direction...guitar layers, explosions, a mighty crescendo. Steve seems to channel Tom Verlaine on this one, add two more guitar soli, and it would have fit nicely on Marquee Moon. Tim Powles is a jazz drummer!! Cool and fresh track! 3) Moon hangs in black - the point of departure is a nice instrumental idea. drum n bass - Peter on string ensemble guitar (they kept that sound off U#23), Marty on wah-wah-ized...i think it's his Jazzmaster. Chord-wise, it's a free rhapsody on the last three chords of "Night Friends". Sounds more like an AENT outtake, but more visceral. Very lovely, very nice. Great singing! 4) Jam. Yes, it's raw and live, a pretty cool racket and all, but I can really go without those sessions. I still quite like this one, great for driving, i can see it playing in the gym. It really the drum-driven 4/4 thumping with wavey guitars, but i still think elaboration isnt the opposite of magic. If you hate Jammed, this one's not for you! |

Isn´t this as general as it gets for their EP´s? Cd´s are out there and you can get the digital version from Second Motion. Why do you need to get it from iTunes too?
