Coffee Hounds EP |

Unless I completely missed it, there isn't a thread for this yet. Anyway, I finally got this just the other day, and wow! "The Coffee Song" is
an outstanding piece of work, definitely The Church at their psychedelic best! The guitars remind me of an extended version of that all-too-short guitar solo
at the end of "Get Over It" on the Refo:mation album. And Steve's delivery is also quite dreamy. It was worth the import price for that song,
alone, but to be treated to an extended instrumental version at the end is even better - it's an outstanding track with and without words! Nice, smooth,
ethereal song. (I also love the fact that The Church made a song about my favorite beverage!) As for "The Hounds of Love", I'm not familiar
with the Kate Bush version, but they definitely give it a nice treatment. I really think this is an essential recording for Church fans. I can't get
enough of it!

I don´t want to tilt this topic in to wrong direction but I think this is the least essential recording the band has put out this year, including Shriek and
KK. I think The Coffee Song wasn´t good enough for U#23 and it´s just a sketch of a song. The cover of Hounds of Love just didn´t do anything to me in the way
Wide Open Road did. Both songs that I love in original form.
3,5 / 5. Solid but not brilliant. |

Chrome I agree with you, I have never heard the Kate Bush original so I cant compare, Coffee song is ok, would have been nice to have two more tracks minus the
instrumental of the tilte track. The Pangaea ep on the otherhand is brilliant and very well done.

Sorry you guys feel that way, but I still really like it. It arrived shortly before my vacation week last month, so I enjoyed my coffee outside on the porch
to "The Coffee Song" and it just fit the mood perfectly. I never heard the Kate Bush version of "Hounds of Love" either, but I like The
Church's version. And "The Coffee Song Instrumental" is actually longer than the version with lyrics, and is a nice, psychedelic, pleasant
piece, good for chilling out to. It was good to hear a new instrumental from the band; it's been a while. My only regret is having paid so much for it -
had I known they would have had it at the concert for only $5, I would have waited. (It was $12 thru Churchmerch, plus shipping! Oh well, as long as they get
most of the money, it's worth it!)

I was just thinking what you said, that Coffee Song makes more sense if you enjoy it slowly with coffee on the porch etc.

I ignored it at the release but am completely obsessed with The Coffee Song right now. Obsessed. On repeat with headphones obsessed.
