I also believe streaming is the future... but the not-so-near-(and maybe not so distant)-future.

I just don't believe streaming is the present, it is indeed the future, and will remain so until there is broadband everywhere and we all carry an internet device with us all the time, and we access the cloud continuously and we store almost everything in the cloud with our home computers mostly a local cache and access point.

And even then, unless the big music labels get their act together, the selection will be limited, and fragmented by regions/countries.

But even then, if you give me the choice, I'd rather download the MP3 (or AAC, or FLAC or OGG, or whatever format is the most pervasive then, as long as it is DRM free, of course!) and have it in my iPod (or iPhone, or iWhatever it is the most convenient portable music player then) but also on my home computer (and also backed up to an external drive and why not, also to the cloud).

I simply don't want to loose access to all my music by device failure, by a connection outage that restricts access to the cloud, or an impersonal glitch in processing payments, or simply by a personal decision to not pay the subscription.
