IMO it should highlight the span of their career, and showcase their excellence as a live-band, rather than doing the hit-singles. Leaving some of the safe anchor-points of the set, would make it all the more exciting to me too. Of course, in a perfect world, we'd all be able to congregate one place and provide them with their most in-tune, dedicated audience ever (And it would be recorded with 5.1 surround sound for a blu-ray dvd release later on). It's gets harder by the year trying to conceive these dream setlists, as there are ever more great songs one has to leave out. On this occasion though, they should have the stamina to play a couple more songs than usual at an event like this. Here it is: Myrrh One Day The Theatre And Its Double Happenstance Dissappear? In line with your comment that it gets harder year by year: Anchorage is playing right now... i love it. 12 months ago, it wouldn't have been on the agenda. thanks fellas. make us want even more songs in your live set every time you bring out a record. but it's always at the expense of another good song... i just think of the shows I saw when Forget Yourself had just been released. so many great songs in one set. and now a few of them have had to make way for more recent (great) songs.... oh the things we have to deal with when a favourite band keeps releasing great records..... woe is us ahhh, that's the title of a Front End Loader song. another band that caused the same problems a few years back with a coupla releases within a coupla tears. Hard-Ons too, with This Terrible Place (2000). man, that was a good year or two when that was the latest record of theirs... anyway, as i said, i'll devote some thought to this...

Glow Worm Posts: 472 (04/20/2009 13:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My reason for sharing this, is seeing other peoples takes on this; fun to turn them into playlists for the iPod/iTunes to get a feel of how it would work. Think mine does a jood job though As if it'd be inspiring to the band, I fear it won't; I've been on their tits about it, and tried the casual song name-dropping approach.. all to no avail. Firstly, there's this band-democracy thing where they all can veto a song off the setlist if one hates playing it. Another problem is they don't really listen to their old stuff much, since they're always concerned with their latest songs, and what's coming next. (and they listen to loads of other artists music, just like we do). That does them good creatively, but I do think they vastly underestimate (and have actually forgotten about) the qualities of many of their older songs.. especially within the context of a setlist. So my only hope is getting rich and just bribe them to do my setlist.

Would love some feedback from you lot on this, and try out your setlists as playlists on iPod. I've added Operetta between Mistress and Day 5, since it was so beautiful live and U#23 deserves an extra song in the setlist. Not sure about Comedown now.. tried Day Of The Dead instead, but that did not work well either. Perhaps UTWM should be there after all?

Your playlist is not bad at all, but I think not only they'll just play whatever they want, I doubt they'll make a big deal out of the 30th anniversary, just as they didn't do much to mark the 25th, IIRC. Get Dave Lane to play the keys. OR get some musician off of this very site to play the keys for free. There are many talented keyboardists on this site that worship the band. It would be great! They could also get an accomplished guitarist from this site to play the accoustic parts to keep PK and MWP on the electric most of the time. Priest=Aura in its entirety.. it's an album demanding to be played from A to Z imo too. I was present at the Trilogy shows by The Cure in Berlin, and it's quite an experience getting whole albums worked through live by the artist in question, especially 3 in a row.. if The Church would go for a trilogy show, Seance - P=A - Untitled#23 would lend themselves perfectly for that, the way they're spaced out through time, and moodwise. The downside of this is having to sit through the albumfillers which are unavoidable even in masterpieces (come on, admit to this honestly people; besides, beauty won't exist without an anchorpoint/beautyspot somewhere in the mix). Also, the whole experience gets terribly predictable both in a good and a bad way. Back to the setlist proposals: I see After Everything on both lists.. it's been on each setlist since 02 it seems; at least it feels that way. Guess me personally am a bit full of that song, just like Providence and UTMW. I had a hard time scrapping Tristesse, and it kinda saddens me no one listing that song although it's being played in some sets these last years. To hear Leverage live would be something but I couldn't picture it working in my set, so I dropped it. Neverness.. wow.. your setlist is ... OUT THERE!! Imagine if a concert could be that long. Really think you did an impressingly good job with such a long set: love the 1st 2 songs, and the Radiance through Happenstance sequence works perfectly. Insanity at that point in the set baffled me a bit though but it'd be fun to hear it live. Block to me is more an opener than a closing song. I don't think Could Be Anyone works on the 3rd spot in the set after the opener and follow-up: since both are slow, climaxing but subdued, a big rocker/old hit would be more in place imo (think along the lines When You Were Mine/Almost With You). The Time Being is a song I always love to listen to, but when perceiving it being done live I kinda see Steve doing his bassline and singing on top of this manchine-drum rhythm, and wonder what the rest of the band are gonna do? In other words, I cannot picture it work in a live setting. After Everything I commented before. I have to do another post to continue commenting your idea as it's so massive Oh and finally I'd like to say I've made some minor changes to my list: Myrrh One Day The Theatre And Its Double Happenstance Dissappear? As Now I Wonder Why and Disenchanted were a bit similar in the sense of melodic pop, I moved the latter into that spot. I chose to give the final 1st encore spot to Twin Star.. what a thrill to get to hear that unfold live and it corresponds wonderfully with Now I Wonder Why, me thinks. Ernst how about: Tim hitting "play" on a carefully programmed and amplified drum machine, grabbing a guitar and coming to the front Steve playing bass, with Tim, Peter and Marty all drift in and out with different guitar textures. The first set is with a full orchestra. Sound crazy...not really. If you have the Easy single, play the live version of It's No Reason. Then listen to UTMW at the Commonweath Games, both are incredible. The Church have some beautiful songs that would sound amazing with an orchestra. Second set, full out blistering electric!
