Space Saviour Posts: 1252 (04/02/2008 23:03) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Remove this ad I've had the remarkable luck to have heard 2 great albums in the past two weeks, one Accelerate (good so far with room to "decelerate" as it were) and Band of Horses' CEASE TO BEGIN. God, I love this album! Is There a Ghost (just the song on youtube as with all the links posted here) is all of 13 words and it's a great opener. No One's Gonna Love You is already a five star song after having only heard it 4 times. The General Specific is another 5 star song in my book, lots of fun. Ode to LRC rocks . . . It's not all cheerful, of course, but the guy has a great voice. It just hit me that he sounds like the guy from Supertramp. The fact that they are on SubPop threw me off their scent, but when I heard they moved back to be near their home in South Carolina, I began to understand their music more. Something in me understands a southern singer more than, say, a New Yorker or a Californian or a N'Easter. And come on! A beautiful ballad named after "baller" Detlef Schrempf??? Window Blues closes the album with a bit of country ballad...steel slide guitar ...lyrics to the songs seem to be a bit obtuse, but it's easy to let that slide at this point... I suppose I find things my own way, however that is. I always have. I see they've played The Funeral on Letterman before, but I don't know their first album/EP at all.... all I know is, this is some pretty great stuff. I'll have to get a hold of The Funeral to see if it is good, too. anybody have thoughts on this band? svw

I still haven't heard it in its entirety from A-Z, but as I am on a "back to the album" trip, i'll find the time soon. ...because strange is what we need The Fandorin Foto Files

BOH struck me as overblown and quite dull, the big band with the little sound. Perhaps I was put off by the bearded singer -or the squandered potential of three guitars. Surely there are better groups mining this particular vein of music. across the endless sky we are deployed

Posts: 5335 (04/03/2008 02:13) Faith Healer Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have questionable taste and I don´t care about their other issues, but I liked "Is There a Ghost" a lot! I remember hearing a sample or two from their first album, but it didnt have any kind of impact.

Glow Worm Posts: 293 (02/21/2009 21:59) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	i picked up a used copy of Cease to Begin a month or so ago and have fallen in love with it. can't put my finger on exactly what it is that makes their sound unique but I really like this album. so much so that I went and got their debut effort today, Everything All The Time. generated enough interest from me that i will be paying attention to them in the future.

I thought that I would go through most of them to see if the list had any idea. On the 150th spot was the debut of Band of Horses, Everything All The Time. I think it´s the wrong choice and Cease To Begin should have been there and higher. There is still many good songs on the debut, like great Salt Lake and The Funeral. Weed Party is fun too. Tempo is slightly slower than before but there is still plenty of indie rock anthems too. They know how to make their sleeves look like they belong together and create that certain mood for their releases. Opener "factory" is a fine song. A bit Fleet Foxes-y approach in many songs me think. They are very good with compact straight forward rock, like NW Apt. but country songs like "Older" are boring to me. He drums impatient fingers on the chrome and on the leather
