Posts: 5335 (01/10/2008 04:15) Faith Healer Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Remove this ad From: Sydney, Australia Label: Bella Union (founded by members of Cocteau Twins) Style: Rock, country, Twin Peaks, Patsy Cline, cinematic, grunge I saw this band from TV couple of weeks ago. They had only song, Setting Sun, but it was really excellent. They had very different kind of style compared to other hip-friendly bands. Lately found out that they were from Australia, which explains a lot. Somehow Oz produces sounds that I like. Been checking their debut album and singles from 2006. It´s really good in a haunting twangy way. Juanita Stein (right) is an excellent singer. They have previously been known in Oz as Waikiki, which made something poppier stuff. They will probably release new album this year and based on one song in their mySpace I´m looking forward to that. Anybody heard from them?

Great voice! Actually, the whole album was great. It didn't exactly hurt the singer is very, very beautiful! Posts: 5335 (01/10/2008 08:57) Faith Healer Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Setting Sun is a brilliant track and other singles, Blessed Night and Low Happening are very good too. When I listened to Neko Case, I thought these two had roughly same kind of style, but I wanted Neko to go more to this direction. Darker and just slightly freaky direction. The cover of the album is accidentally done by a finnish designer, Mikko Rantanen, and it looks really unique. This band also has the quality control on their sleeves which shows something to me. -------------------------------------------------------- Camel worked the hardest and he should win. Passion for their own personal thing, much like there was in The Triffids or The Church. I can´t predict a golden commercial success for them if they continue on their chosen path but it´s going to be good that´s for sure.

Did they invent whole genres all on their own? I guess I do the same when I go to Howling Bells forums to say that I think it sounds like The Church and Heyday. Seriously, some of the instrumental parts of some Howling Bells songs do remind me of the Chameleon's sound somehow. Anyway, Howling Bells have been in heavy rotation at timetunnel's lately - it's become one of the best albums of the last years for me. Hope to see them live one day.

Whenever you hear U2's grandeur without the preaching or something that might sound like Joy Division with balls or the trademark arrangement of dry power chord rhythm guitar with spiralling echoey-achey embellishments by a second guitar, it can be usually traced back to a song on the first or second Chameleons LP. Their third LP goes much further but remained without further influence...strange times indeed. ...because strange is what we need The Fandorin Foto Files

I have entertained the idea of actually buying their album too, but it´s a bit hard to get. It has run out of stock from Bella Union, they only have some singles left. That´s an album in need of some serious rerelease. Rev wasn´t for you? I guess the singing part requires a lot to get used to. It can be difficult to get the idea of that kind of band without hearing their albums first. ----------------- Edit. I agree, Nightingale is a BRILLIANT SONG! I found it pretty strange to go to a band's merchandise after a gig and find out that they don't have any material except the latest 7'' for sale. They also had T-Shirts, black with some golden shape printed on it, but without any information about the band's name or the tour or anything. I felt a bit lost at their merchandise. But I saw a few other people buying the 7''. Nightingale... I get goose bumps in the U-uu-u-uu-u- uu part when they transpose the chords into a different key (or whatever it is they do at that momemt). I can definitely say that for now there's no other band development I'm more eager to follow (apart from our Church of course). Rev... yes, not my cup of tea... at the moment.
