I write to you today about an exciting new pod cast I'm putting together:
FATAL INTERVIEW
I plan on FI being a monthly, hour-long, audio magazine. For those of you familiar with my weekly PCOWpodcast, that will remain strictly about indie music. FI is for everything else!
I hope FI can be eclectic and all-encompassing regarding Arts, Culture, Society, Politics, Local/National/World events, and so on. The segments of the show can be factual/reporting in nature, or they can be personality pieces. I'm hoping to line up the following content:
* - essays (commentary on any topic)
* - performance pieces (poetry, radio plays, fictional readings)
* - interviews (local personalities and beyond)
* - reports from around the world
And perhaps we'll play a song or two. Regarding "reports from around the world", I'd love to line up a "staff" of people worldwide who can give a monthly commentary about something unique that is happening in their region. I know I have friends reading this from Israel, Brazil, Germany, UK, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Canada, USA, France, Spain, Italy, and maybe a few I'm forgetting! If you'd be interested in doing a brief monthly report, that'd be great! It could be about the local music scene, a political happening, some arts movement that is "happening" in your area, and so on. As far as I'm concerned, the topics are limitless.
The interviews too could be quite varied. I myself, over the months, have thoughts of interviewing a local tattoo artist, a local sculptor, and a few other ideas. Maybe you have a crazy neighbor that you know would come over great in an interview! Anything goes…let's just try to be intelligent and entertaining!
Performance pieces are just that, art. Already I have 3 poetry pieces submitted, about a minute each in length. If you have something like that, or a short story you've written, or perhaps you have friends who do such things, a recording of them performing their work would be great for FI! Same goes for essays. If you have written or would like to write a commentary about something interesting to you, we'd love a performance of your work.
Now, I don't want to hear any silliness about "I don't like the sound of my voice"! That's a copout. We are all unique and beautiful human beings. The point of the FI show is to have fun, entertain, inform, and hopefully celebrate the human condition in all it's brutality and beauty. If you have recording capability, .wav or .mp3 files sent to me via email are great. If you don't have such a thing, I can call you with Skype over the Internet and record the conversation/performance. I assume you all have phones…so you can't hide!
I know December can be a busy month with holiday obligations, but I'm hoping to premiere the first show in January, and monthly after that. And really, helping out will only take a few minutes of your time. I think this is a unique and terrific community project, and I sincerely hope you can help!
I've started developing a few websites for FI:
www.fatalinterview.com This will be the "home base" of the show. Links to the monthly mp3s, perhaps some links to online stories about show content or performer's websites will be posted here, along with a monthly "table of contents" of the FI audio magazine.
www.fatalinterview.podshow.com Podshow is a great place to host the final content of the show and to network.
www.fatalinterview.yuku.com This is a bulletin board (similar to Hotelwomb, for those of you familiar with that site). Here we can discuss show ideas, arrange performances, and in general communicate with each other.
www.myspace.com/fatalinterview Everybody has to have a Myspace site, am I right? This will be a good way to communicate word of the show outside of our initial circle of friends.
As you can imagine, I'll be the one putting all of the pieces of the show together in my home studio. I look forward to the opportunity! But this is not a Tony Pucci show, by any means. I hope we all can participate and take ownership of the show. I've discovered that pod casting, as well as listening to pod casts, is a lot of fun, and I think this FI project is a great way to do something unique in the pod casting world.
