Excellent Movie.

For a similar one in topic watch "The Illusionist". Another good movie about magicians.

Fallon and Borden were Borden and Fallon. They were identical twins.
The only difference between them was who loved who, even if they freely shared and switched between their two beloved women.

As to whether it was Fallon or Borden hanged:

Yes.

One of them just had the bad luck of being the wrong personna that day.
Maybe it was the one that had the bad luck of being shot in the hand, or maybe it was the one who had the bad luck of having his fingers cut to match the other.

Remember, they switched between those two personnas more often than they changed underwear.
Twin B was Fallon or Borden, while Twin A was Borden or Fallon.

And viceversa.
Total dedication to their art.
As prefigured by the Chinese Magician.


As to wheter Algiers was the original or not... who knows, was the machine a duplicator first and transporter second, or was it a transporter first and duplicator second? Were both processes simultaneous? Was the copying perfect or was the remaining Algiers a decaying copy, like an n-th generation photocopy?

Immaterial, IMO, what matters was that his obsession killed him in the end, and he wasted a chance to save himself due to arrogance: Borden wrote him the secret, he didn't read it, he felt he won, and thus he lost.

It doesn't matter if The Prestige was the original, or if it was the Man in the Box, what matters is that Algiers was tortured by the question himself, but that would not stop him.

Great story indeed, almost makes me want to read the book, and I might, if I ever run accross a copy.

I do have one gripe with the movie: Tesla has been too often misused by crackpots in real life to justify their pseudoscientific theories for me to enjoy his being used as fictional justification of science fantasy.
That aside, great story turned into a great movie.
