Lately I´ve wanted Love2 by Air to open up but I feel that is not going to happen. There is 3 or 4 quite okay songs but it needs something more. Mid-album tracks 6-10 work and there is that luxurious frenchy pop touch but too many songs go nowhere.

I dunno, there could be something new and weirdo for Enya, like that invented language loxian or something, that they were using. I know it´s unlikely but hey
I can always hope?

This has as much street/indie cred as Emerson, Lake 'n Palmer but I stand by certain people. Sting singing medieval/german/french/olde english winter songs
and carols? Hell yeah! I love it! I love Sting's debut ("Turtles"), like "Nothing like the sun", i really think "Soul Cages"
is a fantastic album, "Summoner's Tales" has some exquisite pop songs, then nothing for 10 years, except great live shows (seen one, was
cool)...and after everything now this...

I love his 'Mercury Falling' album -and his contribution to the Chieftain's 'Long Black Veil' project. Of course, the universe will come to an end when Sting's fans love Sting as much as Sting loves Sting. I'd like to hear this Christmas disc.

Hmmmm.....I've been a fan of Sting for years. At least The Police and some of his solo offerings. Actually Reggatta de Blanc was the second album I ever
owned in vinyl. The last album I bought by him "solo" was Soul Cages which I do love...then I kinda drifted off. I might give this album a try but am
not really a fan of Christmas music. I'm sure if I had children I would reconsider this but I typically spend Christmas alone and listen to The Chameleons
as it has almost as many letters in common with "Christmas". The collectors edition of "What Does Anything Mean? Basically" should bring me
happiness and cheer this holiday season...

it's less your typical christmas album than a collection of more or less meditative songs about winter. there are a few carols scattered around, but it has
enough silent desperation to cut through the cookies n marzipan vapours. Sting's version of Franz Schubert's (1797-1828) Hurdy-Gurdy Man (not the
Donovan thing) is really really chilling... He sings in a strange scary voice with a timbre between a wooden flute and yawning, but it all somehow works.
Believe me, if you had children, you WON'T consider this, at least not if you don't want to scare them away Collector's edition of my favourite Chameleons album!? Yay!! Hey Santa!! |

I have listened to that Sting album once, because it´s free and it was okay background music. I can´t recall much of it, but Sting had some nice atmospheric
stuff going there every now and then, got to admit that much. I agree that his singing voice was very strange also. A voice like a grey old unpainted wooden
table, if that could be possible.
After that I had to spin some BITTE BITTE ORCAAA! by Dirty Projectors in order to recover, though.

The Dodos: Time To Die Wild Beasts: Two Dancers Today I will listen to these two new albums. No previous experiences of The Dodos. Acoustic strumming, good good. Wild Beasts I have tried some and it was definitely quite personal sound they had. These days I only listen to new music because it´s possible and there is a lot of good stuff. I love it! That Chameleons cover is really fresh and cool. Might be good for a poster. It could work wonders in big size on the wall. It´s friday friday friday! Tadaa.

Love this, camel, love this.
i've always loved the voice of Pat Fish.. that's a great guitar sound, too. I can't believe I listened to Jazz Butcher and Prefab Sprout in HIGH SCHOOL! I must have been an unbelievable DORK. I mean, everyone else was listening to Motley Crue, Whitney Houston, just getting into U2. |

I discovered a new band through a youtube post to a video...the video is fantastic! The Firekites - Autumn Story. (Austrailian band)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gvOVWKKxmo I also recorded a classical guitar practice session. I started playing classical again about a week ago. Creative forces that have long since been dead are stirring within me now. |

I must credit Max Eider for being one of the reasons I play guitar today thanks to his crystaline, gorgeous guitar work on David J's solo albums. Do you
use PANDO, Steve? I can't recall if you were on board with that when I was shipping Paddy Macaloon's 'I Trawl the Megahertz' around.
Sure, I was a complete, utter music nerd in high school too. No apologies offered. Church, Cure, Kate Bush, Brit invasion, Lloyd Cole, 10000 Maniacs, Waterboys... it's still better than what passes for popular music. I'll check out Firekites, Jim.

Young Marble Giants, The Stranglers, The XX. Today I´m exploring the same kind of elements that I found in these. Style is simple and colour is black.

Wait Chrome, are you saying that the music sounds the way that the album covers appear? That's a neat idea. I've always thought After Everything has a
perfect cover, possibly the only one that really "fits" the music on a Church album. P=A is pretty good too, though. I wish more bands would try to
connect their music with fitting images. Mogwai's 4 Satin cover also fits really well too. Anyway, just rambling...
For me today (and better than I expected on this my first listen) it's:

It´s just a coincidence that the covers are black and white and there is not a direct relationship to the music. (I hope this wasn´t a trick question...) The
music in the albums has slightly similar moods as I tried to discover similar music than The XX.
