The XX. Quite boring and repetitious but in the end it becomes a strength. Perfect for background, nothing really pops out too disturbingly!

That's interesting Chrome. I haven't heard much from that band, but I've been reading tons of good press about them. You sound underwhelmed,
though.
For me today, it's Saint Etienne's Foxbase Beta. Foxbase Alpha remains one of my all time favorite guilty pleasures; just so much fun. This reworking is quite good. A few songs I see as improvements over the originals. A few don't quite match up. The bulk are just about right for a remix album.

I said that the boring and repetitious nature of it becomes a STRENGTH in the end. It works well as a background music
too, which is not a bad thing either.

Okay, sure, "boring" and "repititious" can be a compliment. Gotta love the Scandinavian mindset! :-)

Well, I just want to think things over. To see the both sides of the coin. Therefore I seldom reach black and white conclusions. I like to be challenged not
just in the first time when I hear something but in the next times too. This XX album has that kind of quality. It toys with boredom, or it could be called
minimalism in more intellectual way, yet it does it very well and with fresh new ideas. I can´t really remember any of these songs but it´s still regognizable.
These youngsters are on to something!
If you have been able to go through the whole catalogue of The Church you must have some kind of idea what I´m talking about. I´m not saying that The Church is minimalism, it´s just that the material challenges you every time and offers multiple directions for your interpretations. It is not one sided and disposable like so many other music acts who go for instant thrills.

No, I absolutely understand where you're coing from. I was just amused by your original word choice.
Today it's some new Yo La Tengo for me.

I have probably blathered in an embarrasing way in the last post. Cest la vie.
I will probably check out that new Yo La Tengo soon too. That is a band I would like to know more.

Blather, no? I'm always intrigued, and often amused, by your posts.
Yo La Tengo is a pretty solid band. They've been at it for years and while they've never become hugely popular, they've enjoyed a respectable amount of success. I like the fact that, like the Church, they just keep doing whatever the hell they want. Painful, Electropura, I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One, and And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out is a string of 4 great albums they released in the 1990s, any one of which would give you a pretty good feel for their rather varied output. Most people would probably recommend starting with I Can Hear The Heart... They also have an interesting album called Facebook that contains mostly covers of quirky songs along with a few YLT original tunes. That's definitely worth a listen. I need to listen to the new album more before I can comment on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7Naq0Mc7zk |

I knew some YLT before. I have been listening to Summer Sun and I can Hear The Heart Beating As One-albums before. Autumn Sweater was my fave song from those.
Somehow I have never really got to know them any deeper but thats way it is.
I listened to Popular Songs and it´s good stuff like I expected. The mid album period with 60´s styled songs Periodically Double... and If It´s True was the one that got me grooving along instantly.

Max Eider here.
Formerly of The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy and a stalwart lead player for David J., his solo records are nice, multi-faceted jewels. I highly recommend Max
Eider -heck, he's one of the big reasons I picked up the guitar in the first place.

More about Yo La Tengo. The opener of Popular Songs, Here to Fall...is it a frigging good song or what, ynnpar? There
is nothing revolutionary but it´s simply brilliant.

Yeah Chrome, that opener is nice. And then there are a few other pretty good tracks in the middle. I really enjoy the final three songs though, about 30
minutes that make the album for me.

Yup, the last 3 long songs in Popular Songs are pretty good. I like More Stars...and Fireside but honestly And The Glitter Is Gone is a skip somewhere there
during the 15 minutes. Very good album and i like it how it goes from mood and style to another. Some may think that it´s bad but I like that.
![]() I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass. That album today. That title is so hilarious. The best.

Classic album title indeed! Lots of young children have no doubt shouted these exact words at their older siblings... and then run away very fast. (True
story.)

YLT's Painful for me this AM. I love the songs "A Worrying Thing" and "I Heard You Looking."

Mostly I´m on a continuing Yo La Tengo binge with some Doves here and there. Also these ultra guilty pleasures lately:
Enya: And winter Came. It´s not really that inspired. Okay background blaa blaa but the songs just don´t lift off. I wish she could come up with something new next time. Extra points for kitschy cover.
Amarantine. Now this is more like it. Nothing new but most of the songs sound at least inspired.
