That´s intriguing that it feel saccharine. The back story behind the album is that Marvin was about to divorce and it was ruled strangely that Marvin´s wife
was to get royalties from Marvins new album. Marvin set out to do a crap album but then decided against it and set out to have a vengeance with the stories on
the album. All the lyrics on the album deal with that divorce bitterly with titles like: "When did you stop loving me, when did I stop loving
you?","Anger" and (this is the best) "You can leave but it´s going to cost you".

i think he really managed to deliver a crap album
no, seriously, it probably works as what it is, but it's not my cup of saccharine. Florence + Machine = Gorgeous! |

Florence + machine was really good. It was almost totally different to what I was expecting. The usual pretentious artsy fartsy plink plonk was my impression
from the album cover but it was more ROCK and even punk approach with some artsy fartsy plink plonk in between. Very fresh and disarming stuff. I was prepared
to be cynical about it but not after Dog Days Are Over. Her own kind of artist. Really personal and passionate sound.

Arik and Timna Brauer - Poesie mit Krallen. Arik Brauer (*1929) is a viennese painter (i love his work), and he rose to transient musical fame in the 1970 with his Viennese songs. He is one of the "founders" of a specifically Austrian dark pop/chanson tradition. This 1984 gem has recently been reissued - a slightly jazzy affair combining traditional Viennese song with a jewish mystic tradition and protest song lyrics. Yes, weird, but excruciatingly lovely. Brauer, though a painter, has one of the brightest, most gorgeous male singing voices I've ever heard anywhere.

On today´s menu:
Bat For Lashes - Two Suns. Mining the same murky waters where Dead Can Dance used to be, only more pop. Charlotte Gainsbourg - 5:55. Sublime chamber pop. Air - Lots of stuff including new song Sing, Sang, Sung Arik und Timna Brauer - Poesie mit Krallen. My faves were ´Das alte Ringelspiel´ and ´Der Overkill´. Now Arik and Timna probably receive 2 cents from my streamings. |

haha, incredible, Arik's viennese songs playing in Finland, if he knew...
he'll be glad about the 2 cents, but he made gazillions with his paintings, built some houses in his style in Vienna and Israel, was professor at the academy of arts...you should see his huge villa in Vienna... while you're at it, check out "Der erste Kuß". Bloody poignant. I'm glad I understand every word, but that's farther from standard german than Estonian from Finnish... -) |

Remindlessness, Zima Junction = one of the most beautiful album covers ever. I saw the tour back then in 1993, it was awesome. "World on fire" is
such a great song, and the James Bond cover version is brilliant...

I have listened Zima Junction now 1,5 times. World on Fire feels like the most complete song for me. It´s so catchy and the acoustic guitars have a good drive.
Up on The Hill seems to be most popular song of this album and it´s not bad either. What is this stuff in the end? Philip Glass cover, Bond-cover...I think
that the Glass-cover was quite well done and I liked the atmospherics of that one a lot.
