ah...my album of the year 2005. once your ears have learned how to endure Donahue's voice, they're a sonic miracle. one of the best shows i've ever seen, too. wonderful live band. Jonathan Donahue - winner of the category Stupid Rock Grin (Male)

Air Rev Chess | ||

Im checking out Air at the moment, yes. Ive had Talkie Walkie for a long time and liked it a lot. Everybody said Moon Safari is superior in their discography but I think I like Talkie Walkie more. Still undecided if I should go further.
Checking Rev too, had Deserters for a long time and now getting into Secret. All is Dream might be good too, earlier ones dont interest me. Voice takes some time to get used to. He has to take wine to improve it while playing live? Is that your own photo, Fandorin? Chess went well as I won. My rating was 1700 and my opponents rating was 1750 so I move up a little bit. I play only 5-6 rating-eligible games a year in 3rd-division and have no time or ambition to play in weekend tournaments. Usually I play one night a week in club, from 5x5 minute games to 1x1 hour games |

Bobby is one of the great champions. If you want to discuss one of his games, pick one here: www.chessgames.com/perl/c...id=1003817
Any one will do, but for instance the first one is quite bold. If you want to discuss his personality Im not interested. Todays menu: Unearthed, Slow Crack, EMS and Hosianna Mantra. That Kyrie-song really makes you travel to some distant places. |

Chess today in short | ||
|
It doesnt matter to me who can beat who and do players of different times have qualities over the other. Was Alekhin better than Kasparov? Was Fangio better than Schumacher? Was Pele better than Zidane?
In chess what I look for is creativity. A skill to search and find the unexpected. Fischer was extremely creative. Some could say Paul Morphy was too. Morphy has created some of the best games there has ever been without aid from databases of previous games. He had to create history. I tried to play against computer chess that emulated the style of famous players. That might sound ridiculous but it gives you good idea of their style. I always had problems when playing against Morphy or Fischer style. Other players styles were more predictable but not those. I was in a game where ex-finnish champ (real expert!) played against 12 players. (Simultan?) After the game we asked from him who was the player he admired the most. He said it was Karpov. He meant that Karpovs style was so deep and complex that even he had trouble finding out what he meant with some moves. Kasparov on the other hand is very simple. He does nothing out of the ordinary, it is just very very good. Fritz may be the best player today. Ordinary game running on ordinary PC. After you install it, the game checks the power of the computer and then informs you that its rating is about 3000. Kasparov, Kramnik etc are around 2800. That doesnt matter, cause chess is still face to face-fight. Mano y mano? That is why thinking times have been dropped to keep the game more "human" as there is no point in human vs. computer - games. |

it is I'm a really lousy chess player - i know the moves, i know the openings and the endgames... once i defeated a good player on a bad day....but i love to learn and think about chess. You'd squeeze me like a fly on a wall... I checked some Morphy games, and it was madness...wow.. |

good point... was Beethoven better than Bach? Was Mozart better than Dufay? Was De Falla better than Cabezon?? Those questions miss the point. Is red better than soft? Is outside better than black? |

Thanks for the answer Chrome3D, I learned a lot. In fact I thought chess was like mathematics, in a couple of moves you may know how the game its going to end. I think the world of chessplayers is fascinating, and I can understand theres some people who doesnt care about anything except chess.
Today is bloody raining, but fortunately I have my mp3 with plenty of Bob Mould and Sugar!!! |

12:30 - and I'm off for today.
I will listen to Linda Perhacs' "Parallelograms" today. I'll bet (I like to bet chrome, "Tapestry" is a wonderful record. The worst thing about "Tapestry" are C.K.'s feet on the sleeve. All the rest is magic. I bought it by accident, had never heard of her since then, it was 3, and i couldnt stop playing "It's too late". I was more excited about the Church playing a CK song than about SK singing a Lemmy melody. |

Red house painters, what a nice band, I espec love the record in which "helicopter" , "Im a rock", "Uncle Joe", etc appeared. A very very sad record but one of the most beautiful records I have ever listened to.
