I picked this disc up at the Salt Lake City show along with the Sing Songs/Persia/ Remote C.D.
My initial reaction was wow, what a difference in drumming styles between Richard and Tim. It has been a long time since Richard was the Church's official drummer. Listening to this whole album with Richard drumming for Peter made me think of the 80's. I've like Peter's solo projects but to me, they've always seemed more "Pop" then either Steve's or Marty's efforts. That's not really a bad thing. I kind of like this album over the earlier P.K. efforts. Much better sounding, no drum machines, less syths. I haven't listened to Love Era/Irony yet so I can't compare, but a few of these tracks really stand out Caravan, On Wings Of Love, Spirit March and Arabia sounds very Church-Like. Faith feels like it could belong on GAF. Peter's trademark guitar is stamped on every track.
Water Rights is a very easy album to listen to, it just makes me appreciate how talented all four members really are. In the case of The Church, the sum of the parts vs. the whole, it's all good to me, just very different.
