Probably contains the best music of any church solo release and his vocals are ok on this one. Its also probably the most church sounding solo release Ive heard. The music is lush and textured. Rhythmically one of the best Church or Church-related albums, thanks mostly to Tim Powles and whoever plays the bass (probably more than one person). Does PK have the best sense of the groove among the three singer-songwriters of the band? -Marcelo

Just an aside, for ages I could not get the hidden track to play despite all of Peter's advice - my stereo is just damn stubborn - OR old but in any case, if anyone else has the same trouble, the song is available in Audiogalaxy as 'Secret Song'...so after all this time, I've finally been able to hear this great piece of music. Space Saviour Posts: 2161 (04/17/2002 14:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Amanda - cant remember the exact instructions, but you have to put Track 1 on and then hit the button that reverses to the previous track...(can anyone else elaborate that a little better for me?- sorry that's not very technical)...but when I tried to do it, it would just go back to the last track. It worked for me on a friend's stereo, but could never do it at home. Sue C

Just adding a note here, that I have this album (obviously), but have not written a review on it as I feel quite out of step with Peter's body of solo work, as this is the only release I own so far and to be quite truthful, I do not think I have given it the good listen it deserves. I am thinking that maybe after listening to another release, I will also be able to decipher more of where Peter is coming from. It's quite sad, but only in the last 12 months have I finally seen the beauty in Peter's Church songs. I think previous to this they just didn't register with me, so not good nor bad. Now, I feel as though I have taken my blinkers off and am really enjoying his vocals and songs. I hope to do the same with his solo body of work. *Amanda

I also have Manchild & Myth and From the Well, so I sort of have some perspective on solo PK. First things first: Peter isn't a great lyricist, although I sense considerable improvement from the earlier albums I own. Now, with that caveat out of the way, let me state that in terms of musical composition, performance, and production, Love Era / Irony is a real winner. More emphasis on rhythm than the Church (most of the drumming is by Tim Powles); also fairly thick keyboard tracks which are much better recorded than on, say, From the Well. Peter's vocals are also produced in a way that makes the most of his limitations as a singer...additional vocalists are wisely and deftly utilized in places. The guitar work, of course, is outstanding...the second track features some lead guitar in a style we don't quite hear in Peter's Church work...he lets a slightly greater degree of blues-rock influence come through (and the model I am hearing is the great Mick Taylor). I haven't really had a chance to hear it in a song-for-song way yet, so I'll probably have further comments... Michael

I purcased tis CD alon wit Dabble and Tys in Space (and te video and 2 tsirts) at te awesome NYC concert. As always,Peter Koppes solos CDs turn out to be my favorites. Martys CD are ood,and Dabble and Tys are ood too but PKs solo CDs are just plain catcier...even catcier tan alot of Curc stuff. Love Era/Irony,despite te muddy production...is really funky and catcy...I love it..Two In A Million rocks.

Posts: 22 (01/16/2003 22:14) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've got to say I've always thought Peter's solo stuff was weaker than either Steve's or Marty's, but I rather enjoy both the Iridescence ep and Love Era/Irony. I've long sold his earlier stuff, but the guitar sounds on these two have a depth I like curling up into from time to time. That said, a question: has anyone been able to rip an mp3 copy of the "secret" intro instrumental track from Love Era/Irony? If so, my mp3 player and I would love to know how you did it!

I did not make the MP3. I got it from Greg Hatmaker who got it from Alton Broussard on AudioGalaxy. I have read that some older MP3 rippers may not be able to see tracks hidden in a CD's pre-gap (like this track), but that most newer rippers should be able to get at it. Mike F.

Extremely surprised as to how strong this CD rocked. Almost as if PK and TP kept the Refo-mation sessions open to just themselves. Have been listening to his first album for years, but this completely blows it out of the water (not that it's a bad album, just raw). Here goes: 1 "Celebration"- Strong percussion from TP, great doubletracked vox from PK, and of course, crunchy guitars. Nice opener, definitely lets you know what's in store. 2 "Thankyou"- Like the slow fade-in. Some interesting and different guitar sounds from PK, almost a 60s style (with some tambourine for good measure). 3 "Two In A Million"- Wow, this has single written all over it; could've easily been the opener. Get this song stuck in my head for hours. Solid guitar/drum solos 2:30 minutes in. Like very much. 4 "Come A Day"- Huh, never been stoned, but if I was, this'd be the song going through my head. Certainly sounds like he and SK've been in each other's company for decades. 5 "Sound"- All right, here we are, back to the rocking PK! This song gives me chills it's so damn good! How this man isn't ever in the guitar mags is beyond me. 6 "Apex Farmer"- Nice, atmospheric guitar, interesting female backing vox. 7 "Oblivion & Beyond"- Good, driving beat from TP. Particularly nice PK vox during the chorus. Sinister guitar wailing at the close. 8 "Message"- Love the opening on this song. Love PK's guitar work and TP's drums even more when the chorus kicks in; this is TP's song as much as it is PK's. Nice airy interlude 2:30 in. 9 "Make A Move"- This has a pretty opening. A better, more polished PK love/break-up song than anything he did earlier. I can just about feel the wanting in his voice and the backing vox. 10 "Luminous"- Great TP drums, what PK would sound like if he had joined the Cocteau Twins. 11 "Esoterica"- Best rock/electronica PK's done yet. Certainly his vox could grate if one wasn't used to it, but it's PK, so I forgive him. All said, Love Era/Irony is as enjoyable as any church solo/side albums. I've certainly put it into rotation as of late.
