They take a little adjustment, and then you cant stop playing them.
It makes me wonder how some of these tracks would have fit on certain Church albums. Ofcourse, the songs would have been cleaned up and given the proper treatment they deserved. I love Heydey. Its one of my favorite church records. There are several filler songs on that album though. Same with GAF. Why did Steve choose to do these early albums in a makeshift bedroom studio? These are great songs! The drum machines and the 80's sequencing on some tracks stifle these tunes greatly. I think Kilbey should re-invent these early albums in a EMD/EMS type setting with live drums and less 80's feel. Although, some tracks don't really sound 80's at all. The man is pure poetic genius. Simply amazing that he is not world renowned and filthy rich to boot. Dylan? Cohen? Morrison? They dont carry this guysjock on a good day!
The fame may come posthumously(sp) for Steve, down the road a ways. tragic
