I think that release date should actually be later as it will be released two weeks earlier exclusively at Churchmerch ie 28 July... unless the band meant to say 28 June which could make more sense. Very nice b/w artwork btw.

Product Description
2007 double CD set that compiles all the classic EMI singles from one of Australia's finest exports. The Church's blend of Byrds-like jangle, soaring melodies, Psychedelic dynamics and an almost Goth-like hint of darkness endeared them to the Alternative/New Wave crowd through most of the '80s and beyond. This two CD set compiles their finest moments and features some of the greatest sounds to emerge from Oz since the days of the munchkins! 33 tracks including 'Under The Milky Way', 'Almost With You', 'Reptile', 'The Unguarded Moment', 'Constant In Opal', 'Ripple', 'Already Yesterday' and many more. So has anyone got a copy yet? How was the Fricke write up and packaging and song flow/ mix / sound?
I love the track list but it would have been nice if each cd had one new song...or better the first had a never heard before 80's gem and the second a new one. If this was the case the church merch would be ordering more from EMI instead of sitting on 130. It is a great release for church virgins (ahh to be young again) |

I have it. It is a fantastic release. I know folks would love to see new tracks, but this line up is just perfect. But, there are some remixed versions that you will love. It's wonderful to have everything on two discs.
I think you will love David's write up. It's several pages long and very flattering. I won't post it here, as it will be a pleasant surprise to read when you get it. David is obviously a big and REAL Church fan! You have got to get this. It is a must have for any Church fan and especially for a completist. Best, Duane I adore this:

Just wondering, but if I own all the albums that those songs appear on, is there any reason to purchase it other than for more cool artwork?

Other reasons could be: 16 page booklet and 10 of the songs are shorter single-mixes. If thats not enough then its not your bag.

Fantastic packaging and wonderful set of songs. I still can't help but imagine how wonderful it would be to be a 16-24 year old in 2007 who had never heard of the church and then stumble upon this gem.

Does anyone know why "Terra Nova Cain" wasn't included? All of the singles from 1980 - 1994 are listed in the booklet of "Almost Yesterday
1981 - 1990", and it was released as a single. There was definitely room for it, and all of the other listed singles are included.

According to discography it was only a promo-single, not commercially available. Following the same logic Unified Field shouldn´t have been here either as UN
was promo only too. TNC would have been nice addition there.

Hi,
Long-time fan but this is my first post here so please be gentle. I've seen occasional mentions of this album having 'single versions' of 'Tear it all away' and 'Too fast for you'. What is that all about? Are there really two versions of each of those tracks? This is keeping me awake at night. |

Track listing of DITS is:
1. She Never Said (single version) (3:13) 2. The Unguarded Moment (4:16) 3. Too Fast For You (single version) (3:33) 4. Tear It All Away (single version) (4:19) 5. Almost With You (4:14) 6. When You Were Mine (single version) (4:49) 7. A Different Man (3:17) 8. It's No Reason (5:47) 9. Electric Lash (4:26) 10. Constant In Opal (3:29) 11. Already Yesterday (4:16) 12. Tantalized (4:58) 13. Columbus (3:50) 14. Disenchanted (3:57) 15. Antenna (3:50) 16. Reptile (single version) (4:55) 17. Destination (5:53) 18. Under the Milky Way (4:57) Disc 2: 1. Metropolis (4:47) 2. You're Still Beautiful (3:10) 3. Russian Autumn Heart (4:08) (sung by Marty Willson-Piper) 4. Ripple (single version) (4:50) 5. Feel (3:57) 6. Two Places At Once (7:53) (sung by Steve Kilbey & Marty Willson-Piper) 7. Welcome (5:55) 8. Comedown (4:33) 9. Louisiana (single version) (4:27) 10. Numbers (4:30) 11. Song In Space [Short Trip] (4:08) 12. 0408 (5:19) 13. Block (6:21) 14. Unified Field [Short Circuit Mix] (3:56) 15. Easy [Sliced Mix] (3:41) Out of the 33 songs 9 songs here have a shorter single mix. Album versions are usually longer. Usually I can´t spot much difference in the album and single mixes, but maybe someone who has taken a closer look will some day shed some light on the differences. For instance "She Never Said is 3:16 on the album and 3:13 on the single, so it´s not a huge difference. When You Were Mine , however, is 5:49 on the album and 4:49 on the single, so there is a full minute chopped off. None of the single mixes here are like radically different remixes. I assume these mixes have some value for collectors who want to get every possible mix, but are not willing to hunt for every one of them on 7" vinyl. Was this gentle enough? ![]()

^ Thanks, but what it is is that I am one of those people that will hunt for every different version or mix, which is why those two tracks in particular are bugging me - 'Tear it all away' and 'Too fast for you'. I'm not quite convinced that there are actually different single and album versions of those. What album would the album versions be on? They were never really album tracks, their album appearances being limited to compilation albums and as bonus or substitute tracks on various editions of the first album. Surely if one of those had unique versions of those tracks, we'd know about it. Plus, I've got most of those compilations and various editions of the first album and have checked them and those tracks are the same on everything I have. (I have audio editing software on my pc which makes it easy to rip tracks from vinyl or cd and compare them.)
So what's going on with 'Tear it all away' and 'Too fast for you'? Why are they being listed as 'single version' on DITS? Any ideas? |

OK. Getting deeper then. What album were they on? On the US edition of Skins and Heart I think. If you are australian then you might not see them as album tracks but I have always had that 12 song version with TFFY, TIAA and Sisters. That´s OSAH to me. According to these links:
http://homepage.mac.com/fipster/church/albums/church-albums.html?osah.html&main (OSAH) and this http://homepage.mac.com/fipster/church/albums/church-albums.html?deep-in-the-shallows.html&main (DITS) the lengths of the songs are: Too Fast For You (3:28) Bonus Track On Arista USA CD (OSAH) Tear It All Away (4:10) Bonus Track On Arista USA CD (OSAH) and Too Fast For You (single version) (3:33) (DITS) (5 seconds longer than the album version) Tear It All Away (single version) (4:19) (DITS) (9 seconds longer than the album version) You have to admit there is a difference, although it´s very small. Single versions give you 5 and 9 seconds more than the album versions.
