I've noticed thus far that anything that doesn't have vocals by Steve (Marty or Peter songs or instrumentals) tends to perform poorly in these championships. I think "Transient" is the only song with a lead vocal by someone else to have yet had more wins than losses in a championship.

Telepath took the win from June and the #1 spot in the championship with a margin of two votes. Sealine took a narrow win from NS and Sealine moved to 4th just ahead of NS.

Thanks for the game. This championship result diverges a lot from my personal song ranking. " Song In Space", "Don't You Fall", "The Theatre And Its Double", "Nothing Seeker" all need much better rankings! Somehow I never "got" "I Kept Everything", even when they played it life a few years ago.

funny, first time i almost completely disagree. telepath n theatre are my least faves, i kept, song in space n summer need higher placements...

i too am surprised by the results, as i've always thought of Telepath (which won) and Theatre and Its Double (which kept piling up the votes) as the weakest cuts on the record. mostly i would have thought they highlight what many consider the album's big shortcoming, namely, the rough production. the basically tuneless solo at the end of Theatre, and the peak distortion on the guitar at the beginning of Telepath, have always grated. whereas the rest of the album features excellent material, the sketchy production notwithstanding.

and everyone knows I Kept Everything should have won - Smile

Telepath is a good tune. It has that nice sort of Beach Boys harmony at the beginning, and it reminds me a bit of Hologram of Baal. Very sentimental sounding, which I'm a sucker for. I'm surprised how poorly Song In Space did. I'm a big fan of Appalatia, also, but it probably did as well as one could hope.

Out of the top three, June was not as consistent against the upper midfield as the other two. I Kept Everything defeated third-placed June but lost to 8th place Summer. A few other slightly inconsistent performances in the bottom half too.

"Song In Space" was an underwhelming selection for a single being one of the least liked songs on the album.

Mostly the results didn't surprise me much but Maya did better than I thought it would, and Reversal worse. I Kept Everything is another slightly offbeat one and it was a bit hard to tell where that would end up.

Yeah, I'm with you on those, particularly 'Don't You Fall', and 'Song in Space' is much better in the context of the album than it was as a single. 'I Kept Everything' was a favourite on early listens but after I got over the fact that I found it such a pleasant change of pace for The Church, the novelty wore off, it's still a fine enough song but no longer a highlight. I also now find 'Sealine' plodding and lyrically indigestible. Dump the three or four worst tracks and give it a a slight remix and FY would have been a masterpiece.

At top3 there was still few minor surprises. Maya´s only loss was to June and that was only one vote loss. Telepath´s only loss was to Maya and that was really close too. Telepath´s Votes For/Votes Against average was clearly the best and the result was right even though Maya and Telepath had the same points.

I also kept wondering the performance of Song In Space. Usually songs released as a a single have performed a lot better in these games but this was abysmal. (You´re Still Beautiful is totally a case of it´s own though smiley: laugh

. ) SIS works better as an album track.

I'm surprised by Telepath being the winner, but mainly because it's by far my favorite song on the album (whereas my favorite songs haven't done so well in most of the other contests).

Thanks! A fine graphic of the FY results. With blue to orange gradient bars! Excellent.

Just one question. What about ties? This is the percentage of wins. For example Lay Low scored 4 ties and ended with 16 points, 12 points from 6 wins and 4 points from 4 ties. Summer scored 12 points from wins and nothing from ties. Lay Low had considerably more points than Summer and that should show somewhere? Maybe a second smaller bar on top?
