Treefight For Sunlight: Treefight For Sunlight

Now this is more like it. Sunshine pop from Denmark. Yes indeed, there is a genre called sunshine pop. I think your description was really good, Rup. MGMT, Mew and Doves have done some good stuff lately. Especially Doves is easily in my top5 of all time artists and there is a lot of twinkly parts that sound like them. There is a lot of playful MGMT Gongratulations psych pop and the bonkers Mew sound constructions show here and there. Beach Boys is obvious when there is lot of harmonies but that is the least interesting comparison to me, as BB is not something I would listen. I think I have sampled some songs of this during the year but maybe I dismissed it too easily. I think this will stay in my rotation for a while. This definitely makes me happy. Most of the songs are quite samey but this is not that long album, so it's not that big...

Ha! That's ok!
I really like both artists, but the War On Drugs LP really stands out for me. I think it's something about the feeling and subtle ambience in the songs that lifts the album way above other similar efforts by other bands. I've really liked all their past LPs and EPs, but this one is a work of art, i reckon.
And yes, the lyrics do lean towards a slacker kinda thing, but that doesn't detract from the overall feel at all, (for me, at least!)

Also, the album improves with multiple listens (much like LPs by the crunch!).

So, who knows, maybe you'll grow to love it eventually!

rup

Drowsy and druggy slacker rockfolk with 70's Springsteen/Dylan /americana esthetics. Sometimes I'm thinking that WOD sounds like Wilco (I Was There). I don't really care about Wilco and midtempo americana or at least it has to be really well done in some crossover way to give me some thrills. Come To The City was probably my fave from WOD-album. Kurt and WOD seem to be competing for the prize who does a song that sounds more like it was completely formed out of weed smoke. Slacker lyrics like these says it all:

I don't want to change but I don't want to stay the same
I don't want to go but I'm running
I don't want to work but I don't want to sit around...
