Forgive me if this is already a thread, but I didn't feel like searching through all the pages for it! Anyway, I finally decided to get "Goldfish: Jokes, Magic, and Souvenirs" on DVD, since my current DVD player does play PAL format DVDs. I had my old VHS copied to DVD, but obviously the real thing has a much clearer picture and sound (although those old videos were rather grainy anyway). I was happy about the additions of the videos to "Ripple" and "Two Places at Once" (and I think "Ripple" is one of their better videos, actually). I was disappointed, however, that they didn't include the entire "You Took"/"Almost With You" extended video which was included as a Quicktime video on the bonus CD of "The Blurred Crusade" remaster from 2002 (granted, I know the original "Goldfish" only included the "Almost With You" video, but they could have added it as a bonus on the DVD). Anyway, I was also wondering, does anyone know, was there ever a video made for...

I'm curious what the general consensus is on the band's "jams" (Bastard Universe, The Sexual Act, Interlock, Particles Matter, et al.) and other longer, structured tunes (Night Sequence, Cantilever, et al.).

Personally, I love them, and would like to hear more of them. It's especially cool when you can pick out embryonic bits of subsequently developed songs in the longer freeform jams. The band seems to have shifted from their post-Arista practice of releasing a "shadow" album of each release back to releasing the more conventional batch of singles/EPs with bonus tracks, so perhaps releases like Bastard Universe and Jammed are a thing of the past.

I would actually be interested in buying CD-Rs of these jams from the band if that were ever an option. Comets On Fire did this (and I'm sure others have as well), offering a paper-sleeved CD-R of unreleased longform music as a tour-only EP.

2. Perhaps a little bit too "straight" song for the kaleidoscope that was U#23. A simple big wave of a riff to drive most of the song. No good for
the album but perfect for a b-side! Layers and layers of guitars and stuff for the headphone experience. A full song but still a page from the sketchbook. SK

Unless I completely missed it, there isn't a thread for this yet. Anyway, I finally got this just the other day, and wow! "The Coffee Song" is
an outstanding piece of work, definitely The Church at their psychedelic best! The guitars remind me of an extended version of that all-too-short guitar solo
at the end of "Get Over It" on the Refo:mation album. And Steve's delivery is also quite dreamy. It was worth the import price for that song,
alone, but to be treated to an extended instrumental version at the end is even better - it's an outstanding track with and without words! Nice, smooth,
ethereal song. (I also love the fact that The Church made a song about my favorite beverage!) As for "The Hounds of Love", I'm not familiar
with the Kate Bush version, but they definitely give it a nice treatment. I really think this is an essential recording for Church fans. I can't get
enough of it!

It's probably one of the most 'adventurous' Church albums to date, with no song standing out as a "potential pop hit" (not that
that's a bad thing), and so many bits of subtle sonic trickery to explore.

that song is still really far away. Whatever kind of reviews would be okay: playing, lyrics, importance of the song, gigmemories, what you were doing when you
heard it etc. I don´t wish to give any certain rules to the topic, just that it would be better if someone doesn´t review songs back to back. Unless...
